Dots of Sunlight in the Moonlight

Grass brushing bare knees, tickling exposed fingers.
Looking back, Spock could still make out the back-porch of his mother’s house, where they were spending some time for the summer. He looked back in front of him, large trees looming in the moon lit darkness around him.
Earth nights were….fascinating.
Spock started walking again, soft hands a stark contrast to the rough bark they were stroking against. His brown eyes took in everything he could see, as he didn’t get to go to earth often. His father preferred that they stayed on Vulcan so that Spock could continue his studies and meditations to become as much Vulcan as possible.
After walking for a bit, he turned to look at the barely-there form of the back-porch before he decided he was far enough. Any further and his mother would worry. The six year old stood in a small clearing, the wind gently dancing between the greenery as the moon shone down past the canopy and dotted the area like mini spotlights.
But it wasn’t the scenery that made his eyes grow wide, brown and full of awe. It wasn’t the whisper in the tree leaves, or the dancing of shadows that made him put up his hands a bit.
The faint buzzing of wings and the soft glow glittered around his palms, lighting the pale green-tinted skin with a faint yellow light. Spock blinked, watching the minute firefly move around, whisking around his hands before flying up a bit higher, and close to the child’s nose.
And then there was another, glittering little lights dancing around the clearing. They were like moving dots of sunlight leftover from the earlier hours. The thought almost made him smile.
There was a quick noise of a clap before Spock brought his hands up to his face, opening his fingers a little to peer at the small bug trapped there. It buzzed away, out of his hands and up into the air, and the hybrid child watched it before reaching up to try and grab it, but it was too far for him to get it now. The mere fascination coupled with child like wonder at the sight of the little fireflies was too much for him to concentrate on his training and his lips split into a grin, the glow of the bugs and the moonlight shining in his eyes as he twirled a little.
“Spoooock!”
Oh, his mother was calling him. Spock turned away from the fireflies and headed back the way he came, glancing over his shoulder to give the creatures one last look before he turned back to watch where he was going.
“Coming!”
Spock's eyes snapped open, adjusting to the darkness of his quarters before he sat up. Usually he didn't dream in the few hours of sleep his body required, so having one was odd. He glanced at the dim computer to look at clock device before he laid back down, pulling the covers over his body. Though his body was always warm, along with his room, so that he didn't need a blanket, he always pulled one over him after a dream involving his mother or childhood.
All three were a reminder of security and comfort in the middle of dark space.
